In order to celebrate spring arrival Skitaci Mountaineering Club from Labin organizes the 10th jubilee night hiking to Skitača, a village in the southernmost part of the Labin peninsula with one of the highest peaks in Labin area. Gathering is scheduled on Friday, March 17, at 8 PM in the main square in Labin Old town. The path runs through Gondolići on Labin Hiking Trail to Oštri top (531 m). From Oštri, the path descends next to St. Matthew’s chapel towards Skitača, where hikers are expected to come around midnight. The route is technically undemanding and of medium difficulty. Head to Labin and Rabac and discover some of the most attractive Istrian natural running tracks and watch the 12th season Istrian Running League finals. The November-to-March league runs in various Istrian towns, and this is the first time the grand finale is set in Labin and Rabac. The tracks are 6-9 km long, and each year an increasing number of participants take part in this healthy outdoor activity, making new friends and spending quality time. Throughout the year you can choose from a number of trail and trekking paths in Labin area, such as Terra Magica Path: Rabac-Prtlog-Gondolići-Rabac, or Bellavista path: Rabac-Kosi-Standar-Rabac, which pass by the sea, over the hills with the most beautiful viewpoints overlooking the islands and the sea and forests with streams and waterfalls.
With spring arriving Labin and Rabac gastronomy exudes fresh scents of bitter wild vegetables abundantly growing this area, where you can find it in various places. From the groves rich in wild asparagus, to the meadows covered with radicchio and black bryony and sea rocks full of refreshing rock samphire. During March head to Labin Town Gallery and visit an exhibition of a prominent Croatian painter Antun Motika (Pula, 1902 – Zagreb, 1992). The restless spirit explorer, Motika has spent most of his life in search of light and artistic freedom. A versatile artist who during his long artistic career took part in various media, is also known as a subtle nudes’ painter, lyrical interiors and landscapes with distinctive sensibility for colors and light. Motika was one of the most significant artists of experiment and a visionary in the field of technology development and use, architecture, theatre scene design, commercials, industrial design and painting, for which he deserved a special place even in the course of European history of art.
