April in Labin and Rabac
During the whole of April, enjoy the original spring tastes in indigenous and modern meals within the Labin Spring Gourmet Rhapsody - Days of Asparagus and Cuttlefish. From the nine restaurants: Due Fratelli, Velo kafe, Kvarner and Ferali in Labin, Lino, Nostromo and Rapčanka in Rabac, Tomažići in Nedešćina and Nando in Trget choose a spring menu with asparagus and cuttlefish with a glass of wine included at a price of Kn 140 -. Istrian asparagus is the queen of spring table and is traditionally prepared as fritaja (fried with eggs), with pljukanci or fuži (home-made pasta) with Istrian prosciutto, and they are also delicious as pesto in appetizers with bruschetta or sauce with cuttlefish. Adriatic cuttlefish is a speciality of south-eastern Istria, from black risotto to cuttlefish stew and ragout.
The biggest ultra-trail race in Croatia 100 Miles of Istria as part of the Ultra Trail World Tour starts on 12 April at Labin Old town. The toughest, but also one of the most beautiful routes called Red course goes from medieval Labin overlooking the Kvarner islands, runs through the eastern parts of Istria over mount Učka and the valleys to Buzet, the smallest town in the world Hum and magical Motovun, finishing on the west coast of Istria in Umag. Join this unforgettable sports and travel experience with over 2000 runners.
Celebrate Earth Day on the Labin Hiking trail from Brseč to Skitača. On the 40 km long path passing the entire eastern coast of the Istrian peninsula, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the blue waters of the Kvarner Bay, the islands of Cres and Lošinj, Rabac, Rabac Bay and Labin, the picturesque villages of Labin area, towards the Skitača plateau from where you can sometimes even see all the way to Italy. The standard mountaineering equipment and sun protection is required for the hike. The average hiking time is 12 hours, and after the all-day exciting hike, there is dinner and entertainment in the relaxed atmosphere of the Skitača mountain house, run by the mountaineering association Skitaci from Labin, the organizer of Long Walk Day.
Experience Easter at the sea and get to know Labin tradition of Easter brunch. On Sunday, 21 April, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, at the waterfront in Rabac enjoy the traditional Istrian Easter food: hard-boiled eggs and ham, Istrian pinca - Easter bread, cheese, spring onion and hroštule (sweet pastry). The cheerful springtime mood is traditionally raised by RKUD Rudar Raša members with the local folk songs and dances, as well as live performance of evergreens.
With more than 200 km of marked bike routes, Rabac is a paradise for cyclists who got the new MTB Helter Skelter race, the first from the 2019 Husqvarna Adria Bike Series. Due to the varying terrain configuration and the attractiveness of the routes stretching from the rocks of the seaside, forest Bike Park, popular single and flow trails up to 300 m high mountain peaks, the race was named after the famous Beatles song ‘Helter Skelter’. Along with three routes suitable for professionals and recreationalists: Epic, Classic and Easy, for the first time in Croatia, an E-bike race will be held and an additional route will be prepared for it. Last minute start-package is still available, so make sure you don’t miss the adrenaline entertainment in Rabac, the new MTB mecca.

After four years of spring and autumn tours, Terra Albona became a favourite bike event in Southeast Istria for all age groups of cyclists and cycling fans. The route passes through the most beautiful landscapes of Labin and its surroundings and includes visits to family farms, restaurants with indigenous Istrian dishes and beverages, as well as wineries with wine tasting of the best local wines.
