Škōrnji od karbôn: Along the trails of the mining heritage
On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the Labin Republic, the Tourist Board of the City of Labin and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Raša invite you on Saturday, February 22, 2025, to a free hike along the Mining Heritage Trails that lead you from Labin to Raša, the youngest town in Istria, and back to Labin. The hike will be led by guide Kristina Načinović Jakovčić in a different, traditional way, through stories and various interesting facts.
The gathering will be in front of the Labin City Library from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The walk will start at 9:00 a.m.
The hike begins in front of the Labin City Library, which is integrated into the authentic ambience of the mining heritage and is part of the protected complex of industrial cultural heritage called “Pijacal”. It continues towards the Old Town of Labin and continues towards Raša. The path passes by “Karlota”, a quarry and a mine shaft that announces your arrival in a mining town. Raša will enchant you like the backdrop of a calm scenery with its regular rows of houses that, immersed in the landscape of the Raša valley, seem almost unreal. Built in 1937 according to a design by architect Pulitzer Finali, Raša was a modern town designed for the needs of miners and their families with all the necessary amenities (school, hospital, cinema) and a church dedicated to the patron saint of miners, St. Barbara, built in the shape of an inverted wagon, while its bell tower resembles a miner’s lamp.
Via Krapan, we return to Labin to Labin Miner’s Square, where the path further leads us to the restored Monument to the Miner, where refreshments and great entertainment await you with an accordion.
