45th Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium
At the end of May, the 45th Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium begins, bringing together artists in the Dubrova Sculpture Park with the aim of creating sculptures in monolithic Istrian stone.
About the Symposium
The “Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium” was initiated in 1969 according to the idea of academic painter and sculptor Josip Diminić, and with the initiative of academic sculptor Milena Lah, academic painter Quintino Bassani, and Josip Faraguna, the president of the then Municipal Conference of the SSRNH Labin and the Department of the “Labin Republic” of the Čakavian Assembly. The first meeting of sculptors was held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the “Labin Republic” in 1970, and the first works permanently marked its boundaries. A tradition that has lasted for more than 50 years continues this May and June at the 45th edition of the event, celebrating the monumentality of Istrian stone, the skill of its processing, and contemporary expression, shaping the space of the Dubrova Sculpture Park.
The Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium will take place from May 24th to June 15th, 2024.
Participants in this year’s Symposium are academic sculptors Kuzma Kovačić (Croatia), Jure Markota (Slovenia), and Nenad Šoškić (Montenegro).
