The 99th Anniversary of the Labin Republic
The two-week Days of the Labin Republic Day program celebrates the 99th anniversary of the historic miners' riot that took place on March 2, 1921. The miners’ strike known as the Labin Republic was one of the first riots against fascism in Europe, and the workers' self-government of the Labin miners survived for only a month, until April 8, 1921. To meet the 100th anniversary the program will last till March 8, including the illumination of the monument dedicated to miners, designed by the academic painter Quintino Bassani of Labin and Berislav Iskra, an architect from Pula. Until that date, you are invited to taste the special miners’ menus (Kovarski meni) at the local restaurants.
